On the fateful night, thugs attacked the family of Andrew Gicheru Kahuria who is a market trader in Nyeri County.

They found his wife Grace Nyambura Gicheru and his son Obadiah Mwangi Gicheru.

The gang first struck the room Nyambura was sleeping in and on hearing the commotion Mwangi rushed to defend his mother.

They were both attacked with knives, as the thugs robbed the home.

After the incident, well-wishers rushed them to Kiriaini Mission Hospital, with the son being taken to ICU in critical condition, while his mother was admitted to a general ward.

Several hours later young Mwangi succumbed to knife injuries in his heart, leaving a huge medical bill.

The family thanked DP Ruto for his kind gesture.

Local leaders have urged the governement to set up a police post in Karuthi area which they described as a dangerous route used by criminals because of lack of police presence.

"The Kenya Power and Nyeri County Government Department of Roads and Infrastructure must also ensure that the street lights at Karuthi are working because it has also greatly contributed to insecurity in our grassroots areas," the MCA demanded.
