The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) on Wednesday, August 26, issued a public notice on construction works set to disrupt traffic along Mbagathi Way, Nairobi.
A section of the road will be closed to motorists as from Saturday, August 29, to Sunday, August 30. from 6 a.m till 6 p.m.
The partial closure is meant to allow a contractor on the site to complete the installation of a footbridge truss.
The entire section between the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) and City Mortuary towards the Ngong' Road junction will be closed.
Alternative routes were provided to guide motorists using the road. Motorists were also adviced to follow the routes as directed by traffic marshals.
Those heading towards Daystar University using Mbagathi Way will have to make a left turn at the Shell Petrol Station, and use Mtongwe Road and Muchai Drive to get to Ngong' Road.
To access KNH, motorists will make a U-turn on Mbagathi Way to get to the Upper Hill-Mbagathi Link road before connecting to Hospital Road.
Those heading towards Defence Forces Memorial Hospital, Nyayo Highrise Estate and T-Mall from Ngong' Road will also have to use Mtongwe Road before getting back on Mbagathi Way at the Shell Petrol Staton
KURA apologised to motorists for inconveniences that would expectedly be caused by the works.
The authority has ramped up the construction of footbridges around the city in recent months, as part of their mandate to improve pedestrian safety and convenience.
In July, for instance, KURA revealed plans to build three new footbridges along Ngong' Road in the next 18 months.
A notice was published inviting bids for the project. The three footbridges are to be constructed in phases; at the Kenyatta National Hospital gate, Coptic Church, and the Kenya Science Technical College near the Junction Mall.
Specifications for the footbridges included a concrete ramp, a staircase and a 28-metre superstructure with a concrete flat base.
