Chief Justice David Maraga on Friday, August 28, made a surprise gesture after Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi request to have another court building in the county.

While launching the newly built Nanyuki Law courts, the CJ declared that he would ensure the request was looked into with urgency.

"Governor Muriithi, I have heard your request for a court in Rumuruti. Although the CJ does not make roadside declarations, allow me to grant this one right away because I know how vast Laikipia County is.

"A court there will bring justice closer to people. It's my belief that the government should bring services close to Wanjiku," he stated.

The CJ also conveyed that the Judiciary would soon establish the Small Claims Court to speedily resolve low-value disputes.

"The Nanyuki Court will house one of the first such courts. The purpose is to support commercial activity, particularly SME's and also reduce the backlog," he added.

Judge Hatari Waweru based in Nanyuki thanked the county government for hosting the court room for the past five years without charging rent.

He noted that the new court would extend similar courtesy and would have an office for the ODPP, Police and Prisons departments.

Nanyuki MP Ali Amin Deddy Mohamed stated that the court was a landmark in the constituency.

"May it be a beacon of hope to wananchi. What a coincidence that as we celebrate the Constitution at 10, we are, through this court breathing life into Article 48 of Katiba that talks about improving access to justice!" he pronounced.
