The differences between Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga and his deputy Caroline Karugu appear to be far from being solved.

The two hosted Interior CS Fred Matiang'i and his health counterpart Mutahi Kagwe for a development tour in Nyeri on Friday, August 28.

However, while updating residents about the developments, the deputy governor failed to acknowledge her boss.

"I joined CS Fred Matiangi and CS Mutahi Kagwe as they toured various development projects in Kieni Constituency. The Cabinet Secretaries officially opened two police stations.

"We thank the area MP Hon. Kanini Kega CBS for these initiatives that have transformed the security of the people of Kieni," she continued with no mention of her boss.

The deputy governor was also absent during a meeting with the governor and two CSs in his office earlier that day.

The two have been engaged in a cold war for months, with the governor claiming that his deputy is not involved in county projects.

"The problem is that the deputy governor is not involved in government, at all, especially ours. She is not involved in government and she is busy doing other things. She is just our deputy governor by name. We never see her, she never comes to work, she does other things and we just let her do it," he stated during an interview with Mt Kenya TV.

On her part, she argued that deputy governors did not have specific roles unless those delegated to them by their bosses.

Karugu opined that a deputy should also be a CEC in charge of a ministry in the county so as to save the wage bill.

"Deputy Governors are now doing charitable activities just so that they have functions to do. A Deputy President should also be a minister or Cabinet Secretary for something," she suggested.

Earlier in the year, cracks emerged between Dr. Karugu and Nyeri governor Mutahi Kahiga over signage on the construction of a pit latrine in Konyu Ward, Mathira Sub-county which bore the governor's name plastered on the top, sparking backlash from many quarters.

“I wish to disassociate from these persistent cheap publicity stunts and I consider them extremely unfortunate and ill-advised. Even the mere contemplation of such stunts is a total abuse of the intelligence of the people of Nyeri County,” she wrote on her official Facebook page.
