Before starring in the popular Auntie Boss show on NTV, Sandra Dacha who portrays Silprosa went through some tough times while staying in Korogocho slums.
Speaking in an interview, the popluar actress disclosed that upon completing high school, she moved to a mud house in the slums where rent was Ksh100 a month.
"That amount may look little but at times it was difficult for me to pay. The landlord threatened to evict me a number of times but a friend would rescue me with the payment," she stated.
Dacha was at that time working as a set book actor and even ventured into other jobs including hawking chapatis in the streets to make ends meet. She eventually upgraded to a mabati house where the rent was Ksh200 a month.
Even then, she still encountered the same problems as she was almost evicted over unpaid rent. She would often have to negotiate with the landlord and there was always that friend who would bail her out.
Despite the hardship, she still pursued her career in acting until she was approached by the producer of Auntie Boss to act in the show without auditioning.
"It was my body size and my big personality that landed me that job without having to audition," she narrated.
Dacha's character Silprosa has gone on to be a household name as she is always up to mischief in the weekly episodes.
She has gone on to feature in a number of local and regional productions including Citizen TV's Inspekta Mwala and Mnet's Hospital.
Apart from being an actor, Dacha is also a digital influencer, female MC, an interior designer who also deals in clothing for plus size women.
"The clothing for plus size women has not been taken keenly and that is what I do, to bring out the woman's best features without shame," she stated.
She further opened up on a rape ordeal when she was young while hawking groundnuts at Lunar Park.
"The evening came and I asked if someone could drop me in Mukuru where I was staying at the time with my mother. A man offered and took me to his house," she recalled.
The actress disclosed that the man sneaked into the room she had been offered to sleep in and raped her and gave her Ksh1,000 to go home the following day.
Her mother was concerned, but she did not reveal what happened. It wasn't until she developed complications that they had to take her to the hospital. Even then she denied that she had been violated.
