17-year old striker Benson Omalla was on Tuesday, September 1 unveiled by Gor Mahia FC as their latest signing.

One of the hottest prospects in Kenyan football, Omalla is still a student at Kisumu Day High School.

The Form Four student made history in January when he became the youngest ever recipient of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) player of the month award.

He previously turned out for cash-strapped Western Stima which continues to lose players after their main sponsor pulled out.

Like every other Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidate, Omalla will have to take the national exam next year after the school year was cancelled.

The Ministry of Education has, however, since indicated that learning could resume in schools if the Covid-19 curve flattens.

School games were among sporting events affected by the suspension of sports at the onset of the pandemic.

It was only at the end of August that the Ministry of Sports published guidelines for the resumption of sports in Kenya.

Omalla's talent shone through at school games and the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom tournament.

His goals were crucial when Kisumu Day were crowned County champions in 2019.

Western Stima secured his signing after he put up an impressive display at the 2019 Chapa na Dimba tournament with Manyatta United.

In December 2019 alone, Omalla scored six league goals staking a claim for a place in the Western Stima first team.

He is arguably the most in-demand prospect in local football since Michael Olunga, who turned out for Gor Mahia before moving abroad.

Omalla hopes to follow in a similar path, revealing in a past interview his dream of playing in the English Premier League (EPL) for Manchester United.

“I want to establish my game at Western Stima before I move out of the country. I aspire to play for Manchester United or Barcelona in the future,” he stated.
