Among the items recovered during the search of the two vehicles included a pair of handcuffs, fake NIS and KDF identification cards, gate passes and walkie talkies.

DCI urged members of the public who may have fallen victim to the activities of such individuals  to visit their offices in Lang'ata, Nairobi.

Mombasa Deputy County Commander Joseph Chebii acknowledged the process of identifying a fake police officer was quite challenging.

"What one can do is to call any police station or a senior police officer to verify the service number but differentiating a fake police ID is not an easy task.

"There are also some of the physical features such as detail in dressing and grooming because most police officers as well-kempt," he noted.

There has been a rise of persons masquerading as security officials with just a day before two individials identified as Dennis Muturi Nyakundi and Victor Onsare arrested for posing as DCI detectives and summoning a member of the National Assembly.
