Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha on Friday, September 25, chased away an official interrupting his speech during the University of Nairobi's (UoN) 63rd graduation ceremony.

The CS who was one of the speakers was in the middle of issuing advice to the graduands when a university official cut him short.

The man approached the Cabinet Secretary trying to hand him an additional microphone.

The CS appeared stunned, initially stretching his hand to take the device before recoiling and taking a step back from the man.

"Kwani kuna nini? (What is the problem?)" Magoha inquired.

As the official tried to explain that there were some audio issues, the Cabinet secretary dismissed him

"Kwenda huko, mbali kabisa (Go away, keep your distance)," the CS lashed out as attendees burst out in laughter.

The CS appeared to be taking precautions in line with social distancing rules that have been in place since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Magoha who previously served as the Vice Chancellor of the institution, went on to praise the university for its academic standards.

He further challenged institutions of higher learning to always recruit skilled and experienced professors to enhance the quality of education in the country.

“The University of Nairobi is the gold standard. For other universities to reach that level, they must have certain criteria that are fixed and transformative,” he stated.

CS Magoha further noted that experienced professors should by retained to enhance the skills and know-how at institutions of higher learning.

“Age is just but a number, because, personally I am running like a turbocharged machine and when I am relieved of my job, I will go back to teaching,” he stated.
