Covid-19: Death Toll Hits 707 With 210 New Cases

Kenya has recorded 210 more Covid-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours as the country's total caseload rises to 38,378.

In a press statement on Tuesday, September 29, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced that 3,604 samples had been tested over the period bringing the total number of samples tested so far to 545,019.

Of the positive cases, all are Kenyans except 10 who are foreigners.

127 are male and 83 are female while the youngest case is a six-month-old baby and the oldest is aged 91.

At the same time, 59 patients were discharged 49 from the home-based care programme and 10 from hospitals around the country bringing the total number of recoveries to 24,740

Regrettably, seven patients succumbed to the disease bringing the total number of deaths to 707.

In the county distribution, Nairobi leads with 55 cases followed by Kericho 36, Kitui 24, Kiambu 21, Nakuru 19, Mombasa 15, Kisumu 10, Kisii 8, Kilifi 6, Turkana 5, Embu 4, Wajir 2, Machakos 1, Kakamega 1, Kwale 1, Nandi 1 and Kajiado 1.

In Nairobi county, the 55 cases were from Starehe (7), Embakasi East and Westlands 95) cases each, Embaskasi South, Kasarani and Roysambu (4) cases each, Dagoretti North, Embakasi Central, Makadara and Ruaraka (3) cases each, Dagoretti South, Embakasi North, Embakasi West, Kamukunji, Kibra, Lang'ata and Mathare (2) cases each.

Kericho's 36 cases were from Ainamoi (35) and Belgut (1). In Kitui, all the 24 cases were from Kitui Central.

The cases in Kiambu county were from Lari (9), Thika (3), Kabete and Limuru had two cases each while Githunguri, Juja, Kiambu Town, Kikuyu and Ruiru has one case each.

Nakuru county cases were reported in Nakuru East (11), Nakuru West 93), Nakuru North (2), Kuresoi South, Rongai and Subukia with one case each.

On September 28,2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta, during the national Covid-19 conference at KICC extended the nationwide curfew for a further two months.

He announced the rvision of the curfew to commence from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. as he urged for caution arguing that the second wave was likely to be stronger.
