Detectives probing the disappearance of Thika businessman Julius Gitau Wanyoike revealed a new twist in the case on Sunday, October 4.

A report by Daily Nation indicated that John Kanda, who is the head detective in the case, noted that the police suspected that the millionaire may either have staged his own disappearance, or may have been kidnapped.

The tycoon disappeared on Monday morning, September 21, without a trace with belief at the time being that he had committed suicide by jumping into a river.

The detectives further ruled out suicide at the river explaining that the spot where he might have committed suicide is busy and people could have seen him.

“It is very unlikely he jumped into the nearby River Chania at 10am.

"The water levels are too low to kill an adult, and that is a very busy spot where we would be having a dozen witnesses confessing they saw him take the fatal dive,” he explained.

The publication also noted that some of the businessman's kin claimed he staged his own disappearance.

The suicide note is under analysis to ascertain if Gitau authored it since talk has been rife that the handwriting does not match his.

“We are now waiting for the government documents examiner to give us a report on whether Gitau authored the suicide note that was found in his vehicle.

"We are also waiting for the information technology analysis on his phone, which was also found next to the said suicide note, to ascertain his last moment’s contacts,” added the detective.

Police earlier disclosed that Gitau might have visited his mother a day before he was reported missing.

He is claimed to have left his wholesale shop on the morning of his disappearance, claiming he was headed to the gym in Ngoingwa estate, a few Kilometre away, but never got there.
