Deputy President William Ruto on Thursday, October 8, cancelled his visit to Nyamira after the tour was marred by chaos.

Ruto was scheduled to visit Kebirigo High School and Miriri in Kitutu Masaba, Nyamira County to meet boda boda sacco members.

"After consultations with MPs Kemosi, Mose, Nyamoko, the boda boda sacco and church leadership who had invited us, we have postponed the two functions in Nyamira County to Thursday next week.

"The disruptive dispersal by police of Kenyans engaged in economic empowerment is unnecessary," read Ruto's statement.

This comes after police officers dispersed Ruto's supporters on Thursday morning at Kebirigo and pulled down the tents erected in the venue.

Ruto had earlier on in the day attended a Cabinet meeting chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta to discuss the preparations for Mashujaa Day scheduled for Tuesday, October 20, in Kisii.

Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua on Wednesday directed that all public meetings be held in compliance with the Public Order Act, with penalties imposed on culprits.

"A convener or any person intending to hold meeting shall notify the officer in a commanding station three days to but not 14 days before the procession," noted Kinyua.

The government moved to impose strict guidelines on political rallies after Ruto's visit to Kenol, Murang'a caused chaos as two lives were lost.

The Deputy President is however determined to continue with the tour as he postponed it to next Thursday.

Area MPs including Vincent Kemosi (West Mugirango), Shadrack Mose (Kitutu Masaba) and Joash Nyamoko (North Mugirango) vowed to continue with the planned gathering.
