State House Chief Of Staff, Nzioka Waita on Thursday, October 8 opened up on receiving threats and insults levelled against him on behalf of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The Chief Of Staff, however, revealed that he has adopted a sober stand of refraining to respond to the threats and insults he has faced.

"I receive loads of insults (and threats) from some folks on this medium who think by doing so they are advancing the interests of their principle against the President.

"I refuse to respond or engage not because I lack capacity or the means to but because I choose to put Kenya first," read a post from Waita.

He added that a time had come for Kenyans to call a halt to the weaponisation of social media as a tool for advancing hatred against those perceived as competitors.

Nzioka noted that Kenyans must aspire to be a nation where political contests are won on the basis of promoting one’s ideas, ideals and values.

The Chief Of Staff highlighted the alarming impact of social media trolls that Kenyans level against each other.

"Normalization of social media trolling as a means to propagate ethnic bigotry, political violence and character assassination is not only dangerous, it has the potential to become self-perpetuating.

"It is a dragon so voracious that it will consume even its own tail," he noted.

Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua on Wednesday noted that media would be held responsible for all the content they publish on hate speech.

Kinyua stated that all social media users would be held liable for content appearing on their profiles pursuant to the National Cohesion and Integration Act.

"Before forwarding or sharing any messages, authenticate and validate the source and truthfulness of their content so as to limit information that might spread rumors, mislead or is not supported by facts," Kinyua stated.
