A mother and her five children have been forced to live under a tree after they were allegedly disowned by her close family members.

The mother, Eunice Nyaguthii, stated that her troubles begun after she gave birth to her last born child, who is disabled.

Nyaguthii claimed she left her home after falling out with her husband who accused her of infidelity.

She parked her belongings and headed back to her father's home in Kwale County, hoping that her life would be more bearable.

However, she claims she was met with hostility, leading her and her children to seek shelter under a tree.

"We have made the tree our permanent home. Sometimes I question God and ask him why my life has to be this difficult," she narrated.

The mother of five relies on menial jobs and well wishers for survival. She has since pleaded with well wishers to help complete a house she has started putting up.

"Nyaguthii and her five children stay under the tree with the hope that one day, she will finally complete the house," Margaret Mwenje, a resident at Ukunda stated.

Kenya has witnessed tough economic times especially in the wake of covid-19.

In a bid to cushion Kenyans from the projected tough economic times, on April 16, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta stated that needy Kenyans had already been identified in Nairobi and would receive a weekly stipend.

“The national government has also released an additional Ksh5 billion to counties to cushion vulnerable Kenyans. Piloting of the fund will be done in Nairobi," he declared.
