Four people lost their lives along Narok-Mai Mahiu on the night of Wednesday, October 14.
The accident occurred after a 14-seater matatu rammed into a lorry on the busy highway.
Police disclosed that the accident, which happened at Ntulele area along the road, was caused by the speeding matatu which was rushing to transport commuters from Suswa to Ntulele.
"The matatu was speeding to drop passengers at Ntulele and go back to get more at Suswa," stated a witness.
Photos from the scene showed a mangled up matatu with most of its exterior badly damaged from the accident.
So serious was the accident that bodies of the deceased and the injured are seen lying on the ground next to the damaged matatu.
Residents rushed to the scene of accident shortly after it occurred and were helping the survivors from the wreckage.
It was not immediately clear the number of survivors from the grisly accident.
The road stretch has, in the past, been subject of several protests and demonstrations following its general topography leading to a high number of accidents and deaths.
On Wednesday, September 30, protesters closed the road at Suswa for hours after a child reportedly died after falling into a drainage pit left open by a contractor.
The protesters. at the time, came out to express their disaffection and demanded action be taken against the said contractor.
As of August 2020, National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) raised an alarm over increased road fatalities especially with pedestrians being the biggest casualties.
The authority further indicated that accidents had been costing the state a loss amounting to Ksh300 billion every year.
The data showed that 3,567 people lost their lives in 2019, an increase from 3,337 recorded in 2018.
