The Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) boss Mohammed Badi on Wednesday evening, October 28, maintained that he was not interested in politics, but was rather focused on service delivery to Nairobians.

Speaking during the JKLive show on Citizen TV, Badi stated that Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko should shun frustrating NMS work and instead take advantage of the good work to gain political mileage.

"He believes I’m finishing him politically but I have no political ambition, I have stated that before. In fact, he should take advantage of what I’m doing by taking credit for it," Badi stated.

Badi was responding to his relationship with the governor who recently threatened to report him to the Hague-based  International Criminal Court (ICC) over what Sonko termed as forced and arbitrary displacement of Nairobi residents.

The NMS boss divulged that the best way to deal with the governor was to keep quiet and perfect on his service delivery to Nairobians.

“The best way is to keep quiet, he’ll keep on guessing what you are doing but I keep on doing the work. I don't entertain any insults or accusations that he bombards me with every week.

"The other day he called me a brother, after a week I'm supposed to go to ICC so I don't know when he'll get a chance to take me to ICC but I keep on moving on to do the work that Nairobi badly needs," Badi stated.

In addition, Badi stated that the rent waiver extended for another six months to the Nairobi residents by the governor, was not legitimate. He argued that the governor had no authority to waive the rent as it was a transferred function.

This is after the governor announced the rent waiver on Friday, saying that his aim was to cushion the city residents from the negative economic impact.

"After all, the people who are collecting revenue now are KRA so they are the ones that should announce that," he stated.

Badi stated that he had been a resident of Nairobi for years and hoped to see change within the two years that he would be in office.

"Reaching the level of General in the military means you have done management at a higher level so it’s not a new area for me; managing the city is just like management in the military," Badi stated.

Asked about his relationship with Sonko, Badi stated; "I’m friends with everybody; I do not have any enemies."
