"Residents alerted the traders upon seeing the vehicle lose control. I highly urge all drivers to take precaution when driving along these busy roads," he said.

He also commended the prompt response by the County police officers who rushed to the scene of the accident to calm matters.

Traders who illegally engage in business along the busy roads instead of the designated markets were put on notice.

According to the Kenya Police website, Daraja Mbili-Bondo junction was listed as a blackspot and considered risky for motorists due to the number of accidents that have occurred.

In 2018, a tanker rammed a Public Service Vehicle (PSV)  leaving three people seriously injured.

The accident occurred along the Kisumu-Busia highway after the brakes of the tanker failed while ascending a steep road at Daraja Mbili.

Then Nyanza Regional Traffic boss Andrew Naibei stated that the trailer reversed and hit a matatu which was heading to Busia.

Other passengers escaped unhurt while the injured were rushed to Kisumu County Hospital for treatment.

Another incident in 2018 saw a teacher and two pupils sustain injuries after being involved in an accident at the same spot. This was after a school van they were travelling in veered off the road plunging into a ditch near Kiogoro area.

The school management confirmed that the van had dropped most of the pupils except two who were in the company of their teacher and the school driver at the time of the accident.
