Kids are generally accepted as a blessing, but for a couple from Makongeni, Thika - the blessing is starting to become a source of concern.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, November 3, the parents stated that though they had been informed to prepare for twins during the prenatal clinics. However, the quadruple delivery caught them by surprise.

“As a family, we are surprised as we were not prepared to get quadruplets. Though we are happy, we know raising them will be a tall order. Anyone who wishes to support can do so,” said Eunice, the mother.

Wambui is a housewife while her husband Njomo Kiogora, lost his job as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

During delivery, the mother underwent a cesarean section at St. Matthias Mulumba Hospital in Thika town where four infants were delivered, three girls and a boy.

Unfortunately, one of the girls died with doctors explaining that she had been compressed by the other three.

One of the infants weighed 1.9 kilograms whereas the other two were 2 kilograms each.

“The mother is now in the ward with her kids and they are all stable. The babies are breastfeeding and it is only a matter of time before they are discharged,” Doctor Regina Nderitu stated.

The couple has asked wellwishers to help them raise their children by contributing whatever they could.

Raising triplets or quadruplets can prove challenging especially when it comes to breastfeeding.

Laundry and food supplies also become a nightmare since a single meal can consume resources that would have otherwise been used for several days.

Sleeping or nursery space is also a challenge since parents are encouraged to prepare before birth. Parents usually have to rush to make changes when they get more children than they were expecting.
