Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo is among four Kenya MPs who flew to the US to observe the elections where Democratic Party nominee Joe Biden is looking to unseat the incumbent President Donald Trump.
After observing the voting process, Amollo observed that the structure was peaceful, organised and spirited.
The votes are expected to be close with low margins of victory in many of the states that had already submitted their results.
Referencing Kenya's 2007 General Election when votes from Tharaka Nithi Constituency played a major role in handing former President Mwai Kibaki a victory in the 2007 Kenyan polls, the ODM MP noted that vote counting was still ongoing with numbers still streaming in from the mailed ballots and provisional votes. The Kenyan delegation in the US observing the election on November 4, 2020.
He, however, stated that the votes were legitimate and would play a key role in determining the winner of the election.
"As Electoral College numbers stream in, it appears mail-in and provisional votes will have a special place here. Tharaka Nithi wait. Only that this time, they will be legit numbers," he stated.
As vote counting was still in progress, President Trump stated that he would be going to the Supreme Court in an attempt to stop ballot counting.
"This is a fraud on the American public. This is an embarrassment to our country. We were getting ready to win this election. Frankly, we did win this election,” Trump stated in remarks from the East Room of the White House.
On his part, the Democratic Party nominee called for patience from the American people.
"I'm here to tell you tonight that we believe we are on track to win this election. We knew because of the unprecedented early vote and mail-in vote, it was going to take a while and we have to be patient. It is not over until every vote is counted," he stated at his campaign headquarters in Delaware, US.
Other Kenyan Members of Parliament in the US observing the elections include Jeremiah Kioni (Ndaragwa), Abdi Shurie (Balambala) and Kisumu Senator Fred Outa who joined members of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in the exercise.
