Felix Odiwuor, alias Jalang'o, engaged NTV's Jane Ngoiri in an hour-long discussion on surviving beyond one's salary and traps media personalities fall into.

Speaking on Ngoiri's Gumzo la Sato show on November 7, the comedian and entrepreneur warned his colleagues from adapting a certain lifestyle just to please the masses.

"Kama msanii, usitembee na wafalme ukadhani wewe pia ni mfalme. Usikubali kufura kichwa (as an artist, don't walk in the company of people who have made and pretend to be at their level. Never allow pride to get in your head)," he advised.

He then emphasised the importance of saving up to start a business, and create multiple streams of income to be able to survive when one line of revenue goes through a slump.

"Hata kama watu wanakutambua kama msanii, fungua Kinyozi mahali, ama car wash (it doesn't matter if people know you as this big star, open up a barbershop or a car wash)," he counseled.

A pensive Jalang'o went on to open up on losing many of his colleagues in the comedy industry.

In his opinion, many of the upcoming artists have lost sight of the fact that life is a journey, adding that most are often after instant success.

"When they step on the Churchill Show stage or my stage, they often forget that they are actually guests granted a platform to grow themselves," he opined.

On her part, Ngoiri revealed that she had recently discovered that a majority of the youth in Kenya were oblivious to the importance of savings.

Having engaged a section of the youth on her Instagram, she expressed her shock on the discovery, adding that most of her respondents did not see the value of saving some coins for the future.

Hubert Mbuku Nakitare alias Nonini, chipped in by detailing his 20-year experience in the entertainment industry.

"I think it's high time we came together as artists and formed a union, where we can combine our financial resources and use it to make investments," he opined.

He seconded Jalang'o's view on pushing for multiple revenue streams with both artists agreeing that you need to have 7 or more sources of revenue.

Jalang'o pointed out that an individual's first goal should be to work tirelessly to eliminate rent payment from the expenses column, then work towards setting up viable ventures, "you either sleep and enjoy your dream, or wake up and chase it," he advised.

Ngoiri confessed to often being concerned about life would be away from the camera, and went on to thank the two entrepreneurs for their sound advice.

"I feel like I'm in my first real class on life," she remarked.

Both Nonini and Jalang'o are highly respected in the business world as well as their respective media hustles. Coincidentally, both stars are currently making waves on YouTube via their personal pages.

Renowned comedian Professor Hamo also called in during the live show and lauded his colleagues for tackling the 'money' topic that most were to selfish to share.

"Most of us are out here living fake lifestyles because the brand name does not match the content of our wallets. What has really helped me is the fact that I am grounded in truth," he opined.
