Three robbers were on Sunday, November 8, given a taste of their own medicine after a woman they had gone to rob locked them inside her house in Thika.
A report by Citizen TV indicated that the robbers presented themselves as employees of a local telecommunication company out to sell new sim cards.
The two are said to have approached the woman identified as Beth Mbithe, with a proposal to sell her new sim cards. The suspects are said to have accompanied Mbithe to her house as it was drizzling outside.
It is alleged that the suspects sought to obtain Mbithe's crucial data, and used it to transfer money from her mobile phone to theirs.
The transaction, however, caught the eye of her son who became concerned after seeing the notification on his mother's phone.
Without raising eyebrows, he stood up, informed her mother and proceeded to lock the door with the suspects still inside the house.
The family then called police officers who went on to arrest the suspects.
The incident was confirmed by Ndia sub-county Police commander Joseph Mwika who revealed that the three were in police custody.
The police also warned the public to be wary of individuals who ask for their personal identities.
The incident comes at a time when crime rate has shot up across the country owing to high unemployment rate posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
An estimated 5 million people lost their jobs as of August 2020.
