DCI Detectives on Thursday, October 8, captured a criminal linked to an armed robbery that occurred in the Lavington area, Nairobi.

The 34-year-old man was part of a gang that attacked a lady as she parked her vehicle at her Lavington residence.

The police revealed that the men who were armed with pistols smashed one of the car windows with a stone after the lady refused to unlock the doors.

Her screams and hooting attracted the attention of a Good Samaritan (a boda boda rider), who stopped and raised alarm in an attempt to rescue the woman.

In retaliation, the robbers shot at the man hitting him at the back of the head, before grabbing the woman's handbag containing her phones, personal documents and cash.

Police stated that that criminals escaped on a motorbike leaving the boda boda rider for dead.

Detectives who were on patrol and who heard the gunshots rushed to the scene where they rushed the injured man to Kenyatta National Hospital.

The police disclosed that the injured man was receiving treatment and recuperating well in hospital.

An overnight manhunt for the suspects was conducted, and acting on forensic leads, detectives ambushed the first suspect at his hideout hours after the robbery.

They recovered a number of mobile phones which were forwarded to the cyber crime unit for analysis.

DCI officers assured that a search for the other suspects and the pistols used during the robbery had been heightened.

According to a comprehensive report released by the Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) in May 2020, Nairobi residents stand a high risk of being victims of crime on any given day.

"Street crime is a serious problem, particularly in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kiambu, Meru, and other large cities. Most street crime involves multiple armed assailants.

"In some instances, large crowds of street criminals incite criminal activity, which has the potential to escalate into mob violence with little notice," reads an excerpt from the report.
