Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have arrested an Italian national who was captured on video assaulting another foreigner at Edenville Estate along Kiambu Road on November 8, 2020.
In a statement on Monday, November 9, the DCI announced that the man had been arraigned at Kiambu Law Courts.
“The court ordered that he be taken to hospital for treatment for injuries that were inflicted on him by members of the public during the arrest,” the DCI divulged.
The suspect is expected back in court after undergoing treatment.
Though the assault video was widely shared on social media, it was brought to the attention of the DCI by communications expert Benji Ndolo.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke Ndolo explained that the video was shared by a former State House staffer whose sister lives in the estate.
“The video was shared to pile pressure on authorities to move in on the suspect who is claimed to be a repeat offender.
“He is a threat to residents in the estate and more so children. We are happy the police have arrested him,” the communication expert stated.
Ndolo added that the residents had been pushing for the suspect to be deported due to his behavior.
The Italian national was captured on camera slapping a lady in the presence of a security guard and another resident who was engaging him.
It was not immediately clear what the two were arguing about since the video did not capture her voice while the suspect was incoherent.
The elderly man was dressed loosely in blue short, an athleisure jacket and flip-flops with his chest left bare.
