The former Kipkelion Member of Parliament, William Kipsalbei Kikwai has passed on.

The County Government of Kericho confirmed his death on Thursday, November 12, in a statement on its social media pages.

Kikwai was a Member of Parliament under the KANU party in by-elections held in 1990.

The legislator served for two years before losing his seat in the 1992 general elections.

"The passing on of Mr. Kikwai has robbed us of a respected leader whose contribution to nation building will be missed by all," reads an excerpt of a statement by Kericho Governor Paul Kiprono Chepkwony.

At the time of publishing, the cause of his death had not been communicated.

"Mr. Kikwai will be remembered for his enormous contribution in  community development and his passion for education," reads the statement.

The deceased is also the father of the Kericho Deputy Governor Susan Kikwai, who is serving in the second term in that capacity.

Susan has also served in several boards including vision 2030 Delivery Board, Export Promotion Council and Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA).

Kikwai's death came just a month after former Assistant Minister for Information and Broadcasting Elisha Godana passed on.

The veteran politician who also served as the MP for Marsabit Mountain/Marsabit South in the first Parliament (1963 - 1967) succumbed while undergoing treatment at Marsabit County Referral Hospital.

During the late president's burial, the former assistant minister stated that Moi had touched the souls of many as he even paid school fees in support of needy children without discrimination.
