Details have emerged revealing how President Uhuru Kenyatta reacted to a video of Education CS George Magoha insulting a County Director of Education

Inside sources who spoke to Daily Nation stated that the Head of State was not pleased by the incident which sparked fury and public condemnation of the CS.

Kenyatta was further not happy that the CS caused a scene which attracted public indignation forcing the Public Service Commission to withdraw his power to manage the human resource functions

Insiders who spoke to Standard added that the President is seemingly losing confidence in Magoha for taking long to solve the education crisis.

On Thursday, November 12, the president ordered the CS to issue the 2021 academic calendar within 14 days. Grade 4, Class 8 and Form 4 students were the only ones allowed to resume studies on October 12, with other students stuck at home for over seven months.

"As a parent and a grandparent, I share in the pain and frustration of most parents in having our children home for nearly an entire year.

"However, as a responsible government, we put the health and safety of the children as the paramount consideration," Kenyatta stated while addressing a joint sitting of the National Assembly and Senate.

Education stakeholders welcomed PSC's directive which gave human resource powers to Magoha's assistant, Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang.

Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) Chairman Omboko Milemba lauded PSC for stripping Magoha's powers.

“All he needed was to apologise and humble himself. Education is a social sector where social values are valuable.

"This should be a lesson to all of us in the public sector to be careful the way we deal with human resource issues," Milemba stated.

Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Secretary-General, Wilson Sossion, stood with Magoha and condemned the directive issued by PSC Chairman Stephen Kirogo.

"He has not abused teachers. He is simply disciplining his staff," Sossion stated.
