Ex-K24 Anchor Mwanaisha Chidzuga has opened up on her struggles of contracting Covid-19 months after leaving her job.

The renowned media personality took to social media on Tuesday, November 17, to disclose the trying moments in her life as she celebrated her 37th birthday. These moments, she noted, shaped her career and made her stronger.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, she confirmed that she contracted the virus soon after leaving K24.

She noted that the symptoms developed soon after her exit, which she clarified that despite reports that she had been fired, her contract with Mediamax came to an end.

"I started having a fever, coughs and this prompted me to seek medical services. After getting tested for Covid-19, the results turned out to be positive. I believe this was a sign from God to take better care of myself," she stated.

This, she believes, was a tough pill to swallow as the pandemic disrupted the proceedings of her new show dubbed Dada2dada initiative which dealt with women's day to day struggles.

"This year though it's different from other years. It has been tough as I've faced challenges, I have been tested and found myself in situations that I thought I would never be," she pointed out.

She, however, affirmed that her status changed as she recovered within two weeks under the home-based care program.

"My father was worried that the virus could spread within the family but to his surprise within two weeks I had completely recovered," she affirmed.

The celebrated media personality also revealed her near-fatal ordeal as she survived a road accident earlier in the year.

"During the beginning of the year, I survived an accident in Nairobi that saw my car lose control and veer off the road. The car was left a mangled wreck but thank God I lived to tell the tale," she noted.

She commended her fans and her team for encouraging her throughout the process and vowed to stay on course noting that her drive would see her through.

The effects of the Covid-19 pandemic saw many journalists declared redundant hence fell victim to the retrenchment exercise that affected various media houses.

Former Citizen TV anchor, Terryanne Chebet, who was fired hours before going live on air for her business show The Business Center, also revealed that it was a major hurdle for her to overcome as she felt angry and betrayed.

"It was a difficult time and I cried every night, wallowing in self-pity and anxiety," Chebet confirmed.
