Embakasi East MP Babu Owino puzzled his colleagues with his English vocabulary during a meeting of the Parliamentary Health Committee on Wednesday, November 18.
The MPs in the committee were grilling Health Principal Secretary (PS) Susan Mochache on the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) scandal.
Babu called for the former KEMSA CEO Jonah Manjari to appear before the committee and uttered the word 'peradventure' which prompted the moderator to ask him to speak in simple English.
Peradventure is an archaic word meaning uncertainty or doubt and is mostly used in the legal context.
"The Principal Secretary of Health, I would like to say that it is beyond peradventure and beyond reasonable doubt that she is as innocent as a newborn baby, therefore we don't need to belabour her.
"We need the former CEO here," said Babu before he was called out of order.
Babu has been known for his bombast language since his days as the Student Organization of Nairobi University (SONU) chairman.
His first major appearance on television was in 2012 after a press conference where he referred to the killing of a university student as "cantankerous, belligerent, obnoxious, and has caused serious consternation".
The statement was picked by satirical news shows and has since been made into a song.
The MP back in July 2019 tore into Deputy President William Ruto using heavy English vocabulary after his remarks about ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga being the Lord of Poverty.
The first time MP used words such as 'famished', 'pauperised' and 'destituted' to describe the alleged theft of the Arror and Kimwarer dam.
In the same committee Seme MP James Wambura Nyikal, Sarah Paulata Korere (Laikipia North) and Joyce Akai Emanikor (Turkana Woman Rep) broke down as the former spoke on the plight of doctors.
The committee was debating about some doctors not being paid and having no insurance cover against Covid-19.
