A letter has emerged where the management of Maanzoni Lodge, a facility located in Athi River, Machakos County, is demanding officials of the Wiper Democratic Movement to pay outstanding bills.
In the letter signed by Kanini Musau, the lodge expressed displeasure at the repeated failure by the party to honour promises to settle outstanding conferencing, accommodation and catering bills.
"Your latest promise via a Whatsapp message was to pay in full on 13th November 2020- a promise you failed to keep," reads the letter in part.
In addition, the hotel's management stated that they had a long-standing and mutually beneficial business relationship with the party, hence, had refrained from involving their lawyers.
"We have opted to not engage our lawyers as yet but we implore you to consider this letter the final correspondence from us on the matter," reads an excerpt of the letter, which was addressed to Wiper Party Secretary General Judith Sijeny.
The Wiper Party was asked to settle the outstanding bill within 14 days of receipt, failure to which they would involve their lawyers. Efforts to get a response from Sijeny were unsuccessful as her phone remained unreachable.
Kenyans.co.ke reached out to Wiper spokesperson Dennis Kavisu, who stated that the party had not received the letter.
"Maanzoni cannot demand payment online and if you take time to read the letter, you will realise that it is fake," Kavisu stated.
He questioned why the lodge could have addressed the letter to Wiper Secretary General Judith Sijeny, instead of directing it to the party.
"Who is Judith Sijeny? For a formal letter, it has to be an office and not an individual. The lodge has also not written the amount that they are demanding from the party," he continued.
"The letter is fake. These are just political innuendos," he concluded.
