A Nairobi taxi driver has reported an incident where a client allegedly pulled a gun and threatened to shoot him over Ksh 320 fee.

Brown Mwangi stated that the incident occurred on Wednesday night, November 25, after he dropped the woman in Karen, Nairobi.

The driver added that the lady asked him to leave her premises immediately claiming that her boyfriend would offset the bill later.

Mwangi alleged that he responded to the lady's request and told her that he would park outside the gate and wait until he receives the money.

"She later went inside, came back with a gun and smashed my car windscreen. She also said that her father is a renowned lawyer and that I won't report her or take any action against her," the driver lamented.

He narrated that he reported the incident at Hardy Police Station in Karen on the same night and was asked to report back on Thursday morning, November 26. The driver also filed a complaint with his taxi service.

Mwangi urged his fellow drivers to report such incidences which he claimed were getting rampant. He also called for more measures to be undertaken to safeguard drivers especially those who operate at night.

"That rider will acquire the services of another driver who may not be aware of the danger he faces," Mwangi stated.

Cases of taxi drivers being abducted, murdered or hijacked have been in the spotlight. In May 2020, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested seven suspects in the case in relation to a missing taxi driver.

DCI disclosed that they were also analysing thirteen pieces of suspected human remains found at Kijabe Forest as part of the case.
