  • Thika High School will set itself far above other public schools in Kenya when it becomes a part-owner of a Ksh100 million ultra-modern stadium.

A report by Business Daily on Wednesday, December 2, indicated that the school had inked a deal with Mt Kenya University to put up the facility.

The facility, which will be located in Thika, is set to occupy 12-acre parcel of land and will contain an indoor arena and a sporting field.

Peter Waweru, who oversees the students and alumni affairs at the university, disclosed that Thika High School provided the land and that Mt Kenya would help develop it.

He further noted that the two institutions would have access to the facility and that they would make money by leasing it out.

“Thika High School had the land but they did not have the resources to develop it and since we have previously collaborated with them on many areas, we saw the need to develop the idle land into a sporting field that will have an indoor arena that can host football, hockey among other sporting activities.

“The facility will also act as a platform to bring in an extra revenue to the school since they can hire out the venue to the public for meetings, weddings, or any other activity that requires a vast compound,” stated Waweru.

The high school has signed a memorandum of understanding with the university and the two have, in the past, been engaged in numerous partnerships.

Thika High School is known for hosting provincial games in the Mt Kenya Region.

The university is also setting up a Ksh300 million auditorium at its main campus which can accommodate over 3,000 people at one time and is working to offer Thika High School access.

In August, the university also inked another deal with Thika Level 5 Hospital in which its students will gain through training and research.

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha, at the time, hailed the partnership, noting that it had worked positively in the area.
