CS Magoha Revokes Appointment of University Chairman

Education CS George Magoha has revoked the appointment of Meru University Council Chairman Dr. Andrew Mokaya Maubi just months after appointing him.

In a gazette notice published on Friday, December 4, 2020, CS Magoha announced that he had retracted Mokaya’s appointment which had been made in March 2020.

The fired university chair had been appointed alongside five other members of the council just nine months after they were appointed.

In his place, Magoha has appointed Professor Monari Mwebi Bosire to serve for a period of three years. 

Bosire is an associate professor in the Faculty of Education at St. Francis Xavier University in Canada.

He has served as the UNICEF technical adviser and lead consultant for Kenya’s Basic Education curriculum reform at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development.

Bosire has been involved in developing curriculum programs that meet current/emerging 21st-century knowledge, attitude, and skills including competency-based curriculums to support teaching and learning in Canada, Kenya and other countries.

He completed his doctoral degree in teacher education and an MBA in post-secondary education from The University of Alberta, Canada.

His undergraduate degree is in economics and history from The University of Nairobi.

Prior to becoming a university professor,  he was a high school teacher, quality assurance officer, and education administrator in the Ministry of Education in Kenya.

Between July 2011 - June 2012, Bosire was a visiting professor at Kenyatta University where he mentored faculty and graduate students. 

In 2015, he was a visiting professor at the Centre for Research For Teacher Education and Development (CRTED), University of Alberta.

Between 2013 – 2014 he was a director of education at the International Centre for Humanitarian Affairs, Kenya Red Cross. 

In this position, Prof. Mwebi helped develop curriculums and introduced internationally accredited training programs.
