A mother has fallen out with her son over the late politician Lawrence Nginyo Kariuki's property valued at Ksh4 billion.

A report by Business Daily on Monday, December 7, indicated that the son, James Anthony Kariuki, moved to court seeking to be allowed to run the estate.

He claimed that his mother, Margaret Wangari Nginyo, and some siblings had transferred money from the estate's accounts to their personal accounts illegally.

He further alleged that the fallout in the family had hindered the successful running of the businesses and that some properties were wasting away.

In court documents, Kariuki claimed that a total of Ksh71 million was transferred in two transactions without his knowledge.

"It has come to my knowledge that a further Ksh61 million has been withdrawn from Pema Holdings account and transferred to a joint account without my knowledge or involvement.

"It is my belief the fourth defendant (Wangari) has been guided in her actions by the 5th, 6th and 7th defendants (siblings)," claimed Kariuki.

The inheritance dispute was sparked by a woman who claimed to have three children with the late politician.

Previously, Kariuki, Wangari and the siblings had presented a united front in the battle but he seems to have fallen out with his mother over the management of the estate.

James further argued that he felt his father's wishes to run the family business were being defied.

In total, the estate had Ksh335 million fixed deposits in various bank accounts with other businesses spanning across real estate, farming and government bonds.

Nginyo passed away in February 2020.
