UPDATE: The DCI released new details regarding the events of the incident on Monday evening, December 7. Acting on a tipoff, the detectives trailed a Toyota Probox whose occupants were believed to be part of an 8 man robbery gang.
This led to a high-speed chase to which the suspects vehicle plunged into a ditch at the Nyahururu interchange along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway.
From the operation, six were fatally injured while two suspects managed to flee with reported gunshot wounds.
Six suspected gang members were gunned down by police officers in Nakuru County on Monday, December 7.
Reports indicated that police officers had been trailing the suspects’ vehicle from Nairobi to Section 58 on the Nakuru-Nairobi highway.
According to the police, the suspects were said to be behind rising crime in the area.
DCI forensic Crime Scene Investigations unit rushed to the scene to carry out investigations on the evidence retrieved.
They managed to recover a walkie talkie, pistols, rounds of ammunition as well as a pair of handcuffs. Other items recovered from the car included belongings of the suspects.
Speaking to a local media house, a Nakuru County Police Officer issued stern warning to criminals especially now that the country is battling a pandemic.
Criminal cases have been prevalent in the country especially due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.This has seen various youth lose their jobs hence resort to crime in order to sustain their livelihoods.
A recent case saw 3 suspects killed by police officers in Mathare estate, Nairobi County.
The police officers,dressed in civilian clothing, managed to retrieve a firearm and several rounds of ammunition.
The suspects were said to be behind a series of robberies in the Nairobi estate.
Another incident also saw a robber gunned down by police officers on Sunday, November 22, after a botched robbery attempt. Police reported that the suspect was part of a crime syndicate that had been terrorising the county.
