Raila Launches 2,000 Houses Worth Over Ksh1Million Each

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, on Monday, December 13, launched 2,000 housing units in Kitui County.

In a statement, the former prime minister revealed that the houses was part of the Kitui Affordable Housing project under the Big Four Agenda launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The project overseen by Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu includes houses ranging from bedsitters for starter homes to four-bedroom maisonettes with a price range of Ksh1 million to Ksh5 million.

"Counties have all the four factors of production within them that can be harnessed for faster and sustainable economic growth.

"I was pleased to officially launch the Kitui Affordable Housing project. A mixed-use development made up of 2,000 housing units," stated Raila.

The beneficiaries of the project will be allowed a payment period of up to 15 years.

Kitui has about 35,000 public servants made up of teachers, national and county government staff, parastatal staff and other public institutions who are likely to benefit from the project.

The housing requirements in Kitui currently stand at 250,000.

"We have aptly named these pioneer developments Chief Kivoi Heights and Nzambani Rockview Estate as a recognition of our rich history and proud heritage.

"This is the first-ever Joint Venture program between the Private Developers, Musyi Development and Tecnofin Limited, to construct 2000 housing units at Manyenyoni and Kalawa sites," stated Ngilu at the event.

The project is part adds to the increasing provision of cheap residential houses by various counties including Nairobi and Kisumu.

The County Government of Kisumu rolled out an affordable housing plan on Wednesday, December 9, in the lakeside city with 1,200 houses in the pipeline.

The estate will contain 108 0ne-bedroom units, 96 three-bedroom units, 714 two-bedroom units while another section will contain luxurious two and three-bedroom units.

Elsewhere, the national government delivered 488 newly constructed houses in Ngara, Nairobi County under the housing project.

The houses located along Park Road include one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom houses which sold for Ksh1 million, Ksh2 million and Ksh3 million respectively.
