The embattled county boss is expected to record a statement with IPOA over the incident where police disrupted his meeting with MCAs.

Initial reports from the incident claimed that Sonko had been arrested but clarification was later issued stating that the Governor was not arrested.

Sonko convened a meeting with MCAs who were against his impeachment by the Nairobi County Assembly before police stormed the venue of the meeting.

The policemen claimed that the meeting had violated the Covid-19 protocols laid down by the Ministry of Health.

This comes as Sonko's impeachment trial in the Senate started on Wednesday as he seeks to defend himself against a barrage of allegations.

The Governor was impeached on grounds of gross violation of the Constitution, abuse of office, gross misconduct and crimes under national law.

The motion to impeach Sonko at the county assembly was moved by Minority Leader Michael Ogada in December after failing to approve a Ksh37.4 billion budget to facilitate operations undertaken by the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS).

A total of 88 of 122 MCAs voted to remove Sonko from office on Thursday, December 3, achieving the two-thirds majority (82) required by the constitution.

Sonko was impeached despite previously flying at least 38 MCAs to Kwale in a bid to counter the impeachment motion.
