Mohammed Ali has accused Mombasa County governor, Abdullswamad Sheriff Nassir, of intention to compromise the Magarini Parliamentary by-election vote due on Thursday, November 27th.
In a statement released on Wednesday, November 26th morning, Mohammed Ali, popularly known as ‘Moha Jicho Pevu’, claimed to have credible intelligence that details the alleged electoral misconduct.
“We are fully aware that you have brought over 4 Presiding Officers and 30 Inspectorates and tasked them with messing up the elections,” Mohammed Ali’s statement read.
The former investigative journalist went on to warn the governor, stating that his (Mohammed Ali’s) team was watching the governor and his allies closely.
We “will remain firm in making sure that the elections are not tampered with,“ stated the Nyali member of Parliament.
Mohammed Ali's statement, which circulated widely on social media on Wednesday morning, alleged a misuse of public and election officials to manipulate the outcome.
Additionally, the campaign team issued a statement to voters in the Magarini by-election, warning them about widespread attempts to bribe voters.
“People of Magarini, vote for Stanley Kenga, and do not forget to take the free money given by those who violate democracy,” Moha Jichco Pevu urged.
Attending the campaign, United Opposition Coalition leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, praised Mohammed Ali’s tenacity in fighting corruption, crediting his past trade of investigative journalism.
In his address on November 25th, Kalonzo stated that the presence of Mohammed Ali in Kenga’s camp was a sufficient deterrent to Joho and Governor Abdulswamad from engaging in any corrupt activities.
