Two police officers from the Tourist Police Unit in Bamburi, Mombasa County, were arrested following allegations that they were part of a scheme that extorted Ksh106,000 from a foreigner.

According to police reports, the officers allegedly coerced Werner Bance into giving them Ksh106,000 in order to evade jail time.

The officers had allegedly threatened to jail Werner Bance for seven years if he did not give in to their demands.

The reports further noted that an unidentified lady made the call to the officers on Saturday, January 2, after the foreigner declined her advances.

"The woman made a call and two people came, a man and woman. They threatened him, saying he would be jailed if he did not part with 1,500 euros (Ksh 201,328),” part of the police report read.

Bance pleaded with the officers to release him pointing out that he could only raise Ksh106,000.

They are alleged to have all proceeded to the hotel where Bance was staying and the officers, having reportedly confiscated his phone, demanded him to go and collect the money.

Police reports indicate that officers returned his phone after receiving the amount. Perturbed by the matter, Barnes reported the matter to Bamburi police station.

The officers were apprehended after Bance identified them in a parade.

In yet another incident, a foreigner reportedly lost Ksh 453,000 to a criminal gang that specialized on luring foreigners and extorting them of their money.

Two suspects were arrested by detectives from the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in connection with the incident.
