A 17-year-old girl in Baringo was all smiles on Friday, January 8, after Kenyans donated to help take her back to school.

Faith Jeptui had been suffering from malnourishment - a condition she has lived with for 14 years - since she was three years old as well as neglect since her family has no means to give her the care she needed.

Her plight was highlighted by a local media house in November 2020, and a group identified as Baringo Mentors took it upon itself to fundraise and send her school with the mass reopening of learning institutions

"We wish to thank everyone for efforts of impacting Jeptui's from Sesoi Village, Baringo North live positively, today she joined an integrated Primary School," the organisation noted.

The officials noted that the excited girl was already catching up with the other learners as she settled in the school.

Jeptui was admitted to Baringo Referral hospital and diagnosed with severe acute malnutrition/ child neglect according to a doctor who attended to her at the facility.

During the school reopening period, a number of needy students have come to light. Earlier on, Kenyans donated overwhelmingly to a student in Kisumu who was pictured in class with torn sandals.

The pupil and his family were displaced by flooding in the area and they were forced to live in one of the camps along the River Nyando.

Silas Odhiambo, a philanthropist in the area disclosed that through well-wishers, they were able to provide Ojwang' with school supplies such as a school uniform, several pairs of shoes, a bag, stationery and masks.
