28 in ICU as Covid-19 Cases Rise to 100,422

A total of 99 individuals have tested positive for Covid-19 from a sample size of 4,758 tested in the last 24 hours. This takes the cumulative confirmed positive cases to 100,422.

In a statement on Thursday, January 28, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced that since the start of the pandemic 1,172,167 samples have been tested for the virus across the country.

From the positive cases, 80 are Kenyans while 19 are foreigners. 62 are males while 37 are females.

The youngest of the cases is a five-year-old child while the oldest is aged 88 years.

66 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus. 34 are from various health facilities across the country while 32 are from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

The total recoveries now stand at 83,757.

Unfortunately, two patients succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours bringing the total fatalities in the country to 1,753.

Currently, 476 patients are admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 1,363 are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

28 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 14 of whom are on ventilatory support and 13 on supplemental oxygen. 1 patient is under observation.

Another 16 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen with 11 of them in the general wards and 5 in the High Dependency Unit.

In the counties, Nairobi recorded 57 new cases, Mombasa 6, Kilifi 6, Kiambu 6, Kajiado 2, Embu 4, Bungoma 3, Machakos 3, Kisumu 2, Migori 2, Kakamega 1, Kitui 1, Laikipia 1, Homa Bay 1, Kericho 1, Meru 1, Siaya 1, and Turkana 1.
