Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) has set standards for African countries having established screening and clearance technologies for travelers.

Travelers will now take 15 minutes to be cleared following the adaptation of the Trusted Travel digital platform. This comes at a time when countries have adjusted to innovative ways to make their airports safe for travelling during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Travelers going through JKIA have commended the airport for its efficiency in detecting body temperatures and exposing fake Covid-19 certificates.

Technology adopted at the airport includes automated cameras with built-in thermometers, which have coordinated speedy clearance at the busy airport.

Kenya is the first country in Africa to adopt the innovation having been approved on Saturday, January 9, 2021.

Africa CDC Director Dr John Nkengasong recognized Kenya's robust technology ecosystem, where blockchain and machine learning are being used to address challenges in various sectors.

He further stated that the advantage would be key to getting the country's air industry back to profitability.

The Africa CDC Trusted Travel initiative helps countries keep their borders open for economic activities while minimizing the spread of Covid-19.

Cases of Covid-19 continue to rise in the country bringing the total number of infections to 100, 422 and 1,753 deaths.
