Grammy Award-winning American rapper and songwriter Cardi B has poured her love into Kenya's unique matatu culture.
The rapper could not hold her excitement as she took to social media to laud the artwork done on various mini buses bearing her image.
"Wow. I love you sooo much. America is boring, they need buses like this," she stated.
This is not the first time Cardi B has heaped praise on the graffiti-style artwork. In 2017, she hailed a 14 seater matatu named C'zer as her image was expertly crafted and painted on the matatu.
Other celebrities have also shared their love for the work of art displayed on matatus.
Actor Robert Knepper popularly known as Theodore "T-Bag" Bagwell in the popular series Prison Break hailed a matatu named after him.
Grammy award-winning American singer Chris Brown also couldn't hide his love for the artwork displayed on the matatu.
In 2016, American singer Trey Songz, during his tour of Kenya, took a ride in the highly acclaimed Catalyst matatu which plies the Ongata Rongai route.
Matatus dominate the public transport system of Kenya’s capital Nairobi as well as other towns in the country. Reports indicate that almost 85% of Nairobi’s population rely on public transportation.
This has made the Kenyan matatu culture to infiltrate the transport sector and become a staple among the youths who prefer the unique culture.
This is through a distinct style ranging from graffiti-style artwork, custom designs, flashy lights, and onboard entertainment.
The matatus are also characterized by free WiFi, comfortable seats, loud music, CCTV fitted inside and flat-screen televisions.
The sector has, however, received criticism due to its unconventional and rowdy nature.
In most cases, touts are seen hanging dangerously on the door of the moving vehicle as they pick up passengers during rush hour.
Furthermore, they are known for causing a commotion on major roads by overlapping and breaking other traffic rules in order to stay ahead of the competition.
