The Speaker was arrested yesterday, Sunday 31, on incitement charges following demonstrations held by Bobasi residents in Nyacheki Consistency. Property worth hundreds of thousands were destroyed during the protest

Onuso said the residents of the constituency had legitimate concerns hence the demonstration,

‘’Today we are conducting peaceful protests. But we have been prevented to protest by our police. The speaker was demanding the addition of another constituency in the area. He argued that they were missing out on development opportunities in Bobasi and it should be divided to ease development operations.

The Speaker who is also the Masige East MCA had also been arrested in August 2020 on crimes related to incitement and leading illegal demonstrations in his ward.

He had attended a funeral where he called on the locals to show up in large numbers at Kiobegi DEB Secondary School where he threatened to attack the school Principal over 2019 KCSE poor performance.

Before storming the school, the Speaker had stormed the area Sub-County Offices on 7/1/20 where he was arrested and later on released on bail on charges of causing a disturbance at the offices.

The following day he mobilized boda boda riders and stormed the school where he got arrested again. Speaking on the arrest, Nyamache sub-county police Commander said that the MCA had proven to be a high risk since he had been released the previous day on similar charges and would be therefore held until he appeared in court.

He was charged with five counts including taking part in a riot, rioting after proclamation, resisting lawful arrest and offensive conduct and breach of peace.

The speaker is currently in police custody.
