Speaker Muturi Responds to Report on His Presidential Ambitions

The speaker of the National Assembly has declared interest in the succession politics of Uhuru Kenyatta as the Mt Kenya Kingpin.

''Ready to serve’’- said Speaker Justin Muturi via Twitter, responding to an article published by a newspaper.

It is alleged that the speaker is aiming to unite Mt. Kenya region as he plans to package himself to run as the region's preferred candidate.

As President Uhuru’s second term is coming to an end, the Mt.Kenya region is keen to find his successor in the region ahead of the 2022 general elections.

The speaker made his first public appearance at Uhuru’s Sagana meeting since December 2020 during the burial of the late Joe Nyaga.

In 1982, speaker Justin Muturi became an advocate of the High Court of Kenya when he was admitted to the bar.

Speaker Muturi served as a principal magistrate between 1982 and 1997 before retiring from judicial service.

Following a by-election in 1999 after the death of the late MP Cyrus Ita, he was first elected as a member of KANU to represent Siakago Constituency.

In 2002, he was re-elected as the MP for Siakago. He also served as opposition Chief whip and chair of the pubic Investment Committee during the 10th Parliament.

In 2007, Muturi lost the Siakago Constituency MP race to Lenny Kivuti.

Speaker Muturi became the seventh speaker of the National Assembly of Kenya in 2013 making him the first speaker to serve under the bicameral parliament brought about by the 2010 Constitution.
