Kenya's Top Google Searches in January [LIST]

Renowned ‘Mugithi’ star Mighty Salim and psychological TV series Killing Eve are among Google’s top searches in Kenya for the month of January 2021.

Kenya’s football fanatics follow along - ranking the FA Cup amongst the top 10 searches.

Kenyans were also interested in Uganda’s recent elections that were trending given the circumstances around the elections where internet access was shut down during the polls.

President Yoweri Museveni also joined the list after he was declared the winner despite the heated campaigns and accusations of vote tampering.

Kenyans were also curious to find out if Safaricom had updated their figures for Mpesa charges which were waived at the end of March 2020 by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK).

The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) had ongoing recruitment for 90,057 positions as KWS Community Scouts. Kenyans took to Google to find out if they had been shortlisted for the position. The position is part of the President’s post-Covid-19 economic stimulus program.

Kenyans also wanted to find out about the said series, Killing Eve, that motivated Lawrence Warunge who allegedly killed his family of 5 in Kiambu County. This placed the two subjects also at the top of the list.

Also in the trending topics was the term "Minister for Water in Sudan, in reference to Mabior Garang who is known for his casual dressing style despite being the former minister in charge of Water Affairs in South Sudan.
