Former Inspector General of Police (IG) Joseph Boinett has been appointed to chair another government board.

Tourism CS Najib Balala, in the Gazette Notice dated Friday, February 5, appointed the former IG to chair the Taskforce on Reform and Re-Engineering of the Kenya Utalii College.

That was after an internal report unearthed embezzlement of funds amounting to Ksh100 million at the institution.

Boinett was appointed to the organisation alongside seven other members including Sankara Hotel General Manager Krishna Unni and InterContinental Hotels boss Barnabas Wamoto.

Others are Twiga Tours Corporate Director Shazmin Manji, Accor Country Manager for Kenya Mehdi Morad and technical training specialist Lina Ayako

The task force was tasked with undertaking institutional assessment of the Kenya Utalii

College in relationship to its mandate with a view of identifying opportunities to leverage its future.

It is also expected to review the global landscape of hospitality training identifying the current trends, and practices as well as models of training adopted by the public sector.

"(You are expected) to make recommendations to the Cabinet Secretary on the institutional model around which KUC should be reformed and re-engineered," read the notice in part.

The task force is expected to present its findings to the CS within 30 days.

The Union of the Kenya Civil Servants (UKCS) raised the alleged graft through a letter to the institution in May 2020.

The institution, which was established in 1975, recorded a Ksh410.5 million loss in 2017.
