Isiolo Woman Rep, Rehema Dida, said that her people will be armed as long as the area continues to grapple with insecurity.
"We will protect ourselves, we will arm our people, we will recover our animals and we will protect our lives,’’ Rehema Dida stated.
Regional Commander, Noah Mwavanda, has warned that those arrested for cattle rustling will be charged with robbery with violence.
"I have said once again that cattle rustling is no longer a cultural practice. It is a robbery with violence. Therefore, we will have to deal with those involved as robbers,"
She made the comments in Marsabit North moments before authorities from the Border Patrol Unit arrested four suspects allegedly found in possession of an AK47, fake passports and a county government vehicle. The County leadership has denied the claims.
The regional commander revealed that the area was also grappling with drug and human traffickers some of whom cross from neighbouring countries.
The BPU officers are alleged to have impounded the vehicle registration number 10CG01, which according to the police, was distributing supplies to outlaws in Funa Qumbi.
According to the police, two occupants of the vehicle were arrested, and are being held.
It was established that the county vehicle was in the control of an MCA who went into hiding. The suspects airlifted to Nairobi for pressing of charges.
Marsabit County Governor, Mohamud Ali denied claims the vehicle, and instead accused the police of engaging in a smear campaign.
