Kiambu County Governor Dr. James Nyoro officiated the launch of a 1.7 km road from Post Office to Indian Bazaar on Friday 5 February that will play a major role in decongesting Kiambu town.

Kiambu Town has a single road traversing the busy and growing county headquarters with the expanding periphery estates contributing to heavy traffic on Kiambu road.

The governor also stated that the 8 Kilometre Juja Farm road that connects the farmlands to Juja Town would be completed by the end of the year as soon as funds were disbursed by the national government.

The county government is also planning a 32-km road connecting Komothai-Githima-Gatuanyaga in Kiambu County.

Nyoro also urged contractors to offer employment to the residents of the area instead of the neighboring regions so as to empower them economically during the period of the road's construction.

“The company should make sure that 70 percent of the people engaging with the project are from Kiambu County and not from neighboring counties,” he said.

According to Engineer Phillip Omolo who was contracted to do the roadworks, the projects should be complete in eight months.

Other projects in Kiambu County include the construction of the Kilimambogo Makutano Township Road in Thika West Constituency and installation of street lights. Nyoro also added that the Head of State had directed the release of Ksh2 billion to re-tarmac the roads in Thika town.

The governor was accompanied by Kiambu County Deputy Governor Dr. Joyce Ngugi, and the MCA of Kiambu Township Antony Ikonya.

Some of the completed projects in Kiambu County include the construction of Juja Circuit roads and access to Juja Railway station, upgrading to Bitumen standards of Githurai -Kimbo Phase I & II both of which cumulatively cost more than Ksh 1.1 billion.
