Embattled Nyandarua Speaker James Wahome Ndegwa has been impeached on Wednesday, February 10 over gross misconduct and abuse of office.

Speaker Wahome was removed from office by 26 out of 39 Members of County Assemblies (MCAs).

The impeachment brings to an end a long protracted battle between Wahome and Nyandarua MCAs who have made numerous attempts to remove him from office.

A section of Nyandarua MCAs on Friday, January 8 moved to impeach Wahome despite a court ruling that gave the Speaker seven days to respond to the allegations that he was accused of. 30 out of 39 MCAs voted for Ndegwa's ouster.

This prompted the embattled politician to move to the High court to challenge the motion alleging that the legislators had not followed the right procedure in the impeachment process.

The High court agreed with Ndegwa's submissions and quashed the impeachment exercise. Two advertisements which had been placed on local dailies on Ndegwa's replacement were also cancelled.

This then led to a long scuffle between pro-Ndegwa MCAs and those opposed to his impeachment motion.

The battle reached its peak when the MCAs traded blows during a special sitting meant to communicate the gazette notice on the impeachment against Ndegwa.

Reports indicated that the chaos which ensued at the sitting was in a bid to stop Deputy Zachary Njeru who had temporarily assumed Ndegwa’s position.

Ndegwa is also embroiled in a bitter tussle with Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia who has previously accused him of arbitrarily shutting County Assembly premises to stonewall the planned impeachment.

Past reports also indicated that the governor was instrumental in rallying the legislators to hasten Ndegwa's impeachment process for normalcy to resume in the County Assembly.
