President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced that the government will honour the late Cabinet Minister Simeon Nyachae to ensure his legacy lives forever.

Speaking at the burial of the late politician, President Kenyatta stated that the Gusii Stadium would receive Ksh150 million to upgrade it to international standards, and renamed after Nyachae.

"In his memory and in consultation with the leadership of Kisii county, and to fortify our appreciation of this great son of Kenya, as a government, we have considered it fit to rename this stadium (current Gusii Stadium), the Simeon Nyachae Stadium Kisii," the president said.

Uhuru also declared that in order to tap into sports talent in the region, the Nyanturago Stadium would be developed into a sports facility named Nyantika Mayioro Sports Academy.

Both developments, Uhuru ordered, should be completed before the expiry of his term in 2022.

President Kenyatta eulogised Mzee Nyachae as a great son of Kenya who showed exemplary service and passion towards the country.

He also said that the tributes by the late politician's family gave him an understanding of why Kennedy Nyachae was violent in his childhood.

He narrated that whenever they hanged out together, the former MP's son would often lost his cool, and would not hesitate to engage in fights.

The politician's family described him as a person who observed discipline and who did not hesitate to correct those who went against his counsel and instructions.

Nyachae's son Kennedy, recalled an instance where his father boxed him for locking the car keys inside the vehicle despite specific instructions on how to lock his Mercedes Benz, a first of its kind at that time.

"If you worked hard, you could be rest assured he always had your back; equally so, if he detected any hint of laziness…well, I’ll let your imagination paint the picture of what would follow.

"As an administrator, Dad demanded discipline and obedience, making sure that we always exerted maximum effort in our studies as he was clear that education was the only path to achieving success," Nyachae's eulogy read.
