Two students of Kanga High school have invented a mobile phone application that will connect patients and doctors remotely.

The Covid-19 pandemic inspired the two, Ian Alindi and Keith Tren to come up with the invention owing to the fact that doctors risk their lives by being in contact with the Covid-19 patients.

“Besides solving the major problem of Covid-19, our app will cater to patients’ needs even in the event of a doctors’ strike,” noted Keith.

Using the mobile phone application (Mobidoc), a doctor is able to see the patient's vitals from anywhere in the world.

The patient wears a glove connected to the app that has two sensors, that measure the blood oxygen, temperature, blood pressure, and heart rate. The glove receives data from the sensors which take it to the google firebase then it is displayed on the app.

The doctor then reads the data from their side, and in case of any abnormality they can call the patient through the app.

“Our app will connect the patient and the doctor remotely, which means that the patient doesn’t have to always go to the hospital for check-ups,” said Ian.

While other students got involved with drugs, got impregnated as well as dropped out of school, the two students used the long holiday brought about by Covid-19 to develop this application.

The two will be representing the school in the Netherlands in a science and innovation competition.

This innovation comes as Kenya awaits its first 1.02 million doses of Oxford/Astrazeneca Covid-19 vaccine to arrive in the country on Tuesday, March 2. These 1.02 million doses will be the first batch of 4.1 million doses expected to be imported.

The vaccine will arrive in the country through Covid-19 Vaccines Global Access (Covax) facility.
