Elgeyo Marakwet Deputy Governor(DG) Wesley Rotich was on Thursday, March 4 arrested on suspicion of obtaining money by false pretense.
He was arrested in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, and charged with acquiring vehicle tires on credit from an Indian businessman and failed to pay for them.
When the DG was pursued to pay for the goods, he is alleged to have issued a bouncing cheque. He is said to have presented a cheque of Ksh 351,000 upon being asked to settle the debt.
Rotich was taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) office in Eldoret.
The Deputy Governor denied the fraud charges and was released on a Ksh 50,000 cash bail.
The hearing for his case Was been set for June 7, 2021.
